This New Year thing is pretty awesome. Starting fresh, a whole new year on the horizon just waiting for us to be awesome in it. It comes at a great time too – after we are all exhausted and depleted and overfed from the holidays. It gives us hope!
Some of us are thankful for an awesome year and new relationships and some of us are glad to have 2013 behind us. There may have been too much loss, too much heartbreak.
My hope for each of you is that you will spend less time worrying about the future. Conveniently this is my hope for me too! I am my mother’s child. I worry. I wake up in the middle of the night and catch my breath with ‘what-if’ scenarios. What if my car breaks down? What if I get sick? Working for yourself is very rewarding and I love it – but living on the edge can weigh heavy on a person.
I’m not saying you should just live for the moment and not plan ahead. But there is only so much planning you can do. The rest belongs to faith. Not so much faith that nothing bad will happen, because this is real life, bad things do happen. We face challenges every day. But have faith that you can handle whatever life throws your way. You won’t be crushed, you won’t be defeated. You may be down for a bit. You may need to reach deep and to recover – but you can do it. Have faith that the people around you won’t let you stay down. Have faith that your friends and family love you and will always be there for you. Be there for them! I have a strong faith and that helps. Prayer helps. Knowing I’m not alone helps for sure.
Worry sucks the life out of you. It contributes to high cortisol levels which contribute to belly fat! No one wants that! It contributes to poor health and low energy. Let it go. Plan as much as you can (I try to make sure I get oil changes and keep my car running well) but don’t be overwhelmed. Expect the unexpected. Be ready to say, “ok cool – is that all you got? I may be down but not for long.”
Having a strong body contributes to a strong mind. CrossFit gives you confidence. I’m overwhelmed with the testimonials from our members of what CrossFit has done for them. That confidence and stronger self-image will bring you success in the coming year. You are ready to take on anything. Be strong – and no worries!
