We have jobs as trainers. Our job is to be honest with you, to support you, and to encourage you to challenge yourself. We will support you when you come in last and cheer you when you are first. We will tell you what you need to do to be better – whatever “better” means to you. If you want help figuring out what “better” is or can be – we’re there for you.
Our job is not to coddle you, or allow you to make excuses. You can state those excuses, but if I am nodding my head in agreement you should fire me. It’s tough love. Find a way to make things happen. If you let the roadblocks block your way, then you aren’t trying hard enough. Don’t tell us
why you can’t get better. Don’t tell us why you can’t get here at least three times a week. Make it happen. If it’s important, you find a way. You figure out how to eat three meals a day right? Find three hours a week to work out (no matter if it’s in the gym or in your basement).
Because here’s the deal. We WANT you to be better than you were yesterday. Yes, we all have an ‘off’ day now and then. No excuses, shrug it off and move on. But keep trying. Our effort is synchronized with your effort. If you want it, we’re there for you.
“Better” is not discriminatory. “Better” can be done at any age, size, or gender. Can I compete with 20-somethings? Nope. Are there some things I can do better? You bet. And so can you. Figure out how much better you want to be. Do you want to coast along, or do you want to crush the WODs? Is it enough that you just show up? Or do you want to leave a mark after you’re gone?
Nothing should be just ‘good enough’. Don’t accept limitations. Don’t settle for less than you know you can be. Knock down the barriers. Crush it. Every time.
And yes, I know, it’s been a while since I last blogged. My bad. No excuses. It’s a new year and a new me - here’s to ‘crushing’ 2013.
